Regional Initiatives for ICT in Education
My role
in ensuring that these plans are successful is to get acquainted with and
familiarize myself with the ICT curriculum, while keeping abreast and updated with
the trends in the technology. I will do this by attending relevant training seminars
and other planning sessions. I will then create awareness and an appreciation
for ICT in the classroom by promoting the use of ICT –mediated learning by
getting stakeholders, students, parents and the school’s community at large
involved. This will be done by
instructing them to the advantages and benefits of ICT-mediated learning in the
classroom. It’s ability to promote children’s creative ability, to develop their higher order thinking skills,
as they learn in an exciting and thought provoking environment, while they take
onus for their own learning. I will in particular also monitor and evaluate the
use of ICT-mediated learning in the classroom with the sole purpose of upgrading
and improving the ICT curriculum thus making the teaching and learning process
more successful and meaningful.
I will also guide teachers to the numerous ways that they can use the ICT to make learning come alive for the students in the classroom from the use of blogs, wikis, social networking just to name a few. I will also make it clear how assistive technology can be used in the classroom to assist with inclusive learning so that no child is left out.
The administrator, first I will help her develop and action plan and ICT policies which would guide her into incorporating a ICT-mediated based curriculum into the school. Then, I will show her how to develop and use the school’s website to posts news, events and to show case the school. I will teach how to use emails to communicate to parents and other stakeholders in a timely manner and how ICT can help her effectively manage the school on a daily basis. I will also try to use her influence to get training for the staff in the form of organising ICT training workshops particularly for teachers through the Ministry of Education where teachers can learn how to integrate ICT-mediated learning within the curriculum in an effort to maximize the use of the technology.
My role in ensuring that learners develop 21st century skills is to empower them with the skills and the knowledge which is required. I will keep updated with the world of technology so that I can share and impart knowledge that is relevant and timely to my students and colleagues. I would encourage my colleagues to get at least basic training in the field of ICT since it is here to stay. I will also advocate that students be exposed to ICT from preschool to tertiary level. By carrying out my plan my colleagues will not only be enlightened, but will be willing to use ICT tools to the fullest.
